Alice Dearth

Alice Dearth, 101, passed away on October 30th at Greenbriar Terrace Healthcare facility in Nashua. She was born on March 28th 1909 in Lynn, Mass. She has one surviving sister, Thelma Stover, currently living in California with her grandson. She has two surviving daughters, Jayne Dearth, living in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Marlene Young, residing in Brookline, NH with her husband David. Alice had 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons. Alice was married to Alfred Dearth for more than 55 years. They spent most of their lives on Long Island, New York. Alice worked for the telephone company for 25 years, while Al managed a Stop and Shop Supermarket. In 1968, Alice and Al moved to Wilton, NH so that Alice could be close to her sister, Thelma. She joined the Rebecca’s of the Second Congregational Church where she found fulfillment volunteering for their monthly spaghetti dinners and making crafts and needlepoint to sell for the church group’s many charity events. Alice’s last and most rewarding job was working for Jan and Royden Sanders in Lyndeborough. For more than 25 years she kept house and cared for their young children. Alice was treated like family. They took her with them on summer vacations on Cape Cod as well as an unforgettable trip to New Zealand and Australia. Alice started every day with yoga. She was an accomplished seamstress sewing anything from prom gowns to upholstery. She loved doing counter-cross stitch and would often give her work away to friends and family. Alice was very social and was known for her sense of humor and endless energy. She loved flowers. African violets and Christmas cactus were her favorites. She was adventurous and would try anything once. She was truly young at heart. There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held for Alice on Friday, November 5th at 10:00 am in the Second Congregational Church, 25 Gregg Street, Corner of Dale & Gregg Street, Wilton, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Wilton-Lyndeborough-Temple EMS, P.O. Box 584, Wilton, NH 03086.
