H. Roy Bentley, 83, resident of Wilton, NH, died February 13, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Liverpool, England on April 25, 1928, a son of Frederick and Gertrude (Smith) Bentley. He earned his Master’s Degree from Balliol College, University of Oxford, Oxford, England. Mr. Bentley served in the British Army from 1945-1947. In 1952, he married Bobbie (Robinson) Bentley and a year later they moved to Canada where they made their home for 20 years. He and his family immigrated to the United States in 1973 and lived in Wellesley, MA, Dunstable, MA and for the last 11 years in Wilton, NH. He was instrumental in establishing the U.S. Operations of Sun Life Financial, Wellesley, MA and retired in 1999, after more than 25 years of service, as Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Bentley was an avid reader. He enjoyed spending time on the computer and solving difficult mental puzzles. While living in Canada, he was 32 Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge. Family members include his wife of 59 years, Bobbie (Robinson) Bentley of Wilton, NH; a son and daughter-in-law, Ian Bentley and Mary Fish of New Ipswich, NH; two daughters, Alison Bentley of Vail, NC, and Fiona Reeve, DVM and her husband Stephen Reeve of Pembroke, NH; four grandchildren, Graeme and Tristan Bentley, Tyler and Kaylie Reeve; several nieces and nephews. Memorial visiting hours are Saturday, February 18th from 2:00-3:30 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, followed by a service of remembrance. Donations in his memory may be made to Monadnock Humane Society, 101 West Swanzey Road, Swanzey, NH 03446-3419.
