Alan M. Hazen

Alan M. Hazen, 83, longtime resident of Mont Vernon, NH, died April 1, 2011 after a prolonged illness. He was born in Nashua, NH on May 12, 1927, the son of Arthur M. and Jessie (Dearborn) Hazen. Mr. Hazen was raised and educated in Mont Vernon and graduated from Milford High School, Class of 1944. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Army Air Corp attended St. Lawrence University, later joined the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. Mr. Hazen resided in Derry, NH for 25 years. He had been employed by PSNH for 40 years and then retired in 1987. Following his retirement, he moved back to Mont Vernon and had worked for J.P. Chemical for several years. Mr. Hazen was a member of the Mont Vernon Congregational Church and had served as a deacon. He was a member Mont Vernon Historical Society, Nashua Camera Club, former president of Souhegan Valley Chapter of AARP and had been with the Mont Vernon Volunteer Fire Department He was an avid hunter and fisherman. In addition, he enjoyed his regular poker game for 60 years with the same group of friends and liked to play cribbage. He was a loving father, a devoted grandfather and great grandfather. Mr. Hazen was predeceased by his wife, Nyla L. (Trow) Hazen and their son, John L. Hazen. Family members include his daughter, Sherry L. Hazen of Mont Vernon, NH; his two grandchildren, James Draper of Manchester, NH and John B.D. Hazen of Mont Vernon, NH; three great grandchildren, Julianne Hazen, Annaliese Hazen and Luke Hazen; and his sister, Marcia Hazen Cheever of Milford, NH. There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held on April 17th at 2:00 pm in the Mont Vernon Congregational Church, 4 South Main Street, Mont Vernon. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mont Vernon, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Mont Vernon Congregational Church, P.O.
